Discover the Past at the Museum of Geology
Geology is a fascinating and broad science, which incorporates many other sciences! At the Museum of Geology, you'll find extensive exhibits focusing on Paleontology - the study of ancient life, and Mineralogy - the study of minerals, including gems, crystals, and the rocks they form. Our displays are engaging and accessible to everyone.
The Museum is located on the campus of the esteemed South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. The Museum opened has been collecting and displaying new specimens since 1885.
Come and see our fascinating mounted skeletons of dinosaurs, mammals, marine reptiles, and fish! Dozens of rare fossils from the White River Badlands are arranged in time-specific dioramas. Our mineral displays include the Hall of South Dakota Minerals, meteorites, gold, and a fluorescent mineral room that's sure to fascinate. See unique specimens from as far away as Antarctica.
