National Research Council Research Associateship Programs
The National Research Council of the National Academies provides Associateship Programs in over 100 locations throughout the United States. These programs provide opportunities for Ph.D., Sc.D. or M.D. scientists and engineers to perform research. Full-time Associateships will be awarded on a competitive basis in 2012 for research in the fields of chemistry; earth, atmospheric and space sciences; engineering, applied sciences and computer science; life and medical sciences; mathematics; and physics. Many laboratories are open to both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals.
Level of Support
Awards are made for one or two years, renewable for a maximum of three years. Annual stipends for recent Ph.D. recipients range from $42,000 to $75,000. Graduate entry level stipends begin at $30,000. Financial support is also provided for some relocation expenses and professional travel.
Deadlines
Application deadlines are February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1 for reviews in March, June, September and January respectively. Detailed program and application instructions are available on the NRC website at
