Business Management in Technology

A Business Management in Technology degree from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is an integration of science/engineering education with management and business training.

Science and engineering industries often seek managers who are not only highly knowledgeable in the areas of science and technology, but also adept in business. This degree opens the door to many exciting careers at the intersection of business and science/tech. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national median pay in 2018 for sales engineers was $101,420. This job is expected to increase 7% between now and 2026.

Technical sales is an important role for companies that manufacture high tech products. Having a technically competent team to position their products and support through the sales process is fundamental to company growth strategies. College graduates can participate in roles of technical sales, technical marketing, field applications engineers and more. Having the technical background and disposition are important elements for these positions. Technical sales positions are often well compensated with earning potential above that of typical engineering positions.
