What is Title IX
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people
from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX states:
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
At South Dakota Mines we strive to provide a safe environment free from the effects of harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct, which includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Through
sexual violence related programs and services, our purpose is to foster and maintain an inclusive campus climate through prevention, reporting, and resources.
